About this artwork

From the wide stone esplanade of La Défense, the Grande Arche closes the great axis west of Paris: a hollow cube of white Carrara marble, its vast open void framing the sky. Glass office towers line the parvis on either side, and broad shallow steps climb toward the arch. Completed in 1989 for the bicentennial of the French Revolution, Johann Otto von Spreckelsen's cube is a twentieth-century counterpart to the Arc de Triomphe, aligned with it along the historic axis. A light fabric canopy floats inside the void, far below the roof.

Every Jason D’s Vision image is an AI-generated artistic interpretation of a real place — original artwork, not a photograph. The label bar on the download may show a creative daylight scenario; that is artistic staging, not a record of a real event.
