Curator narration for this scene.
Saint-Benoît-du-Sault crowns a rocky spur above the Portefeuille river in the Indre, a village that grew around a Benedictine priory founded in 974. Its oldest quarter, the Fort, encloses the Romanesque church and priory buildings behind ramparts, entered by a fourteenth-century fortified gate beside the belfry. A second ring of walls later enclosed the trading quarter, whose sloping cobbled lanes keep their fifteenth and sixteenth-century houses.
