Curator narration for this scene.
The Château d'Oiron, in the Deux-Sèvres countryside, is a Renaissance palace built by the Gouffier family, its long wings and arcaded gallery fronting a broad entrance court. Claude Gouffier, Grand Equerry of France, completed the transformation of the medieval house in the sixteenth century and filled the château with one of the great art collections of the age. His painted gallery, made between 1546 and 1549 and fifty-five metres long, retells the story of the Trojan War.
