About this artwork

Fort Saint-André crowns Mont Andaon above Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, facing the papal city across the Rhône. Seven hundred metres of curtain wall ring the hilltop, and the entrance passes between two great round towers, the twin-towered gatehouse built in stages through the fourteenth century. The French kings raised the fort to assert royal power against the popes in Avignon, and a royal garrison held it until the Revolution. Within the walls lie the abbey gardens and the Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame de Belvezet.

Every Jason D’s Vision image is an AI-generated artistic interpretation of a real place — original artwork, not a photograph. The label bar on the download may show a creative daylight scenario; that is artistic staging, not a record of a real event.
