Curator narration for this scene.
The abbey church of Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye lifts one of the great Gothic facades of the Dauphiné above a village in the Isère hills. Relics of Saint Anthony the Great, brought here in the eleventh century, made the village a place of pilgrimage for sufferers from Saint Anthony's fire, the burning sickness the Antonine hospitallers treated here. The church rose between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, its carved portals and tall windows crowning the approach through the village.
